Mitzrayim (Egypt)

מצרים

Jacob lived in Egypt seventeen years, and the years of his life were a hundred and forty-seven. Genesis 47:28

Several places in scripture refer to מצרים as the house of Bondage:

  • Exodus:13:3,14; 20:2
  • Deuteronomy: 5:6; 6:12; 7:8; 8:14;13:10
  • Joshua:24:17
  • Judges:6:8
  • Jeremiah:34:13
  • Micah:6:4).

Often, when Mitzraim is mentioned in the bible, it is synonymous with physical and mental Bondage (Slavery), so there is a psychological and spiritual aspect to this “narrow place,” perhaps describing our limited ways of seeing reality as God sees it, or the false beliefs that we hold about God, self, and others. It can be the things that restrict us from our fullest potential. No matter what, we all need to be rescued from mitzrayim and only God can deliver!
